SUCH A WONDERFUL THING JUST HAPPENED. I had my spanish encounter in the street! What is a Spanish encounter in the street, you may ask? WELL - it's when you're walking through Sevilla, just minding your own business, and you bump into YOUR SPANISH FRIEND and they stop to talk to you and tell you about the plans for this weekend AS IF IT'S NO BIG DEAL CUZ YOU GUYS ARE FRIENDS.
Let me go into detail.
I was walking home from Seminar class with Brett, on Avenida de la Constitución, and I see Fernando coming toward me on his bike! Now, last time I saw him on his bike, he didn't see me, and I yelled his name but he didn't hear. But this time he saw me! And I got this big smile and a wave and he stopped his bike and went RIGHT IN FOR DOS BESOS BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT FRIENDS DO HERE IN SPAIN. And I was so excited to see him because I really haven't seen my Spanish friends in a while (at least it feels like that..) and it just so happens that his birthday was yesterday, so I was like FERNANDO! FELIZ CUMPLEAÑOS!
And then he was like (in Spanish) Yeah, we're gonna celebrate it on Thursday, you're coming right?! And I was like Yeah I'm so excited! And it was GONNA be at Nacho's house but it turns out his parents are home (so wahhh I guess I'll never see Nacho's pretty house) so Fernando said it'll either be at his own house (But there's too many people) or just en la calle. SO YAY.
But I was all flustered so my Spanish was sucking when he asked Adonde vas? and I wanted to tell him we were gonna check out the stands selling stuff but I DONT KNOW HOW TO SAY STANDS so I was kinda using Spanglish and kinda just using English or terrible Spanish and he's like 'You've forgotten Spanish huh? En broma en broma!'
Which is silly because actually in Seminar I was so impressed with myself because I was like USING SUBJUNCTIVE EVERY WHICH WAY and being very fluent-sounding and articulate and wonderful. I think I was just caught off guard or something.. but YAY FOR MY SPANISH ENCOUNTER. So so proud. And so freakin excited for this LONG. WEEKEND. PUENTE. YEAH. WEDNESDAY. THURSDAY. FRIDAY. SATURDAY. w0000000000000! Vamos!
