A gitano couple gave a presentation in Psych class!

... It had nothing to do with Psych. But it was cool, they were explaining the gitano culture in Spain, and how gitanos are older than the royal spanish family heheh.. (Gitanos = gypsies). They also sang for us, I took videos which I will post later!

One thing that was very strange, that at the time none of us understood, and then I just googled it and now I UNDERSTAND TOO MUCH.. For los gitanos, marriage and virginity are extremely important.. They usually get married young, have ENORMOUS WEDDINGS (500-100 people are considered a 'small gathering')... But there is a ritual ceremony in the wedding.. a sort of 'virginity test' for the bride. And the way they were explaining it.. we weren't sure if there is someone IN THE ROOM while the new couple has THEIR FIRST NIGHT TOGETHER.. or if they somehow.. look at the bride's YOU KNOW WHAT to discover if she's a virgin or not..

Well, I was very curious but too embarrassed to ask for clarification in class (as was everyone else..) so I googled... A whole bunch of older gitana MARRIED women, take the bride into another room... one of the wise older women who must be very trusted in the community, takes a handkerchief and and with it covering her finger PUTS IT UP THE BRIDE'S YOU KNOW WHAT... and if the handkerchief has... STAINS of sorts.. that means she's a virgin, and all is well.

IM SO SORRY I HAD TO TYPE THAT ON MY BLOG. I TRIED TO DO IT WITH LESS DETAIL THAT WHAT I READ. I can't. I can't.

But the rest of the wedding is full of dancing and all of the groom's friends taking off their shirts.. so that's cool? I don't think it makes up for it, but it's pretty chill...

loooool OKAY MOVING ON.

The chino store I pass every day had FAKE CHRISTMAS TREES OUT ALREADY. Also, there's A WHOLE BUNCH of temporary stands set up selling CHRISTMASY THINGS outside of the Cathedral.. I think I might get some to decorate with when I go home! But dang, is this early? I guess they don't have Thanksgiving here, so after halloween it's like BAM CHRISTMAS FOREVER.

Then when I got home, the guy that I've been in the elevator with multiple times, with his little daughter, was waiting for the elevator again today, with his daughter on his shoulders.. And he just went into the elevator like that, she was nearly touching the ceiling (it's a tiny elevator).. the three of us hardly fit.. Then he asked how I was, and if I was studying here (DOES HE REALLY NOT REMEMBER ME) And i said yes, and then we awkwardly had to shuffle around so he could get out cuz his floor comes first. And then I said Adios! to his little daughter again, and he was like Dile adios! And she did. Hehe.

That's all folks! Almost done ish with my essay for Angel's class, which is AWESOME because that was stressing me out the most. I just hope it's good. bwaaah.
