Mi abuela y yo have an interesting relationship!

I know I've been complaining a bit more about her lately, but she really is a sweet lady! But before that, REALLY QUICKLY, GRAMMAR LESSON

Okay, so yanno how the word 'el pasado' means 'the past'? WELL If you're telling someone,  I'm gonna do this tomorrow, and then I'll do that the day after tomorrow. YOU WOULD SAY: 'Voy a hacer esto mañana, y luego voy a hacer eso pasado OR pasado mañana'

THIS CONFUSED ME WHEN MY HOST PARENTS FIRST SAID IT, because apparently pasado mañana or mañana pasado or just pasado in this context means THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW and has nothing to do with the PAST. I guess it makes sense, cuz it's like, past tomorrow... but... I was so confused. BUT NOW I UNDERSTAND AND I AM BETTER FOR IT.

Anyway, my abuela came home today (I had just eaten - she told me at lunch that she was going to be home late and that I can heat up some empanada if I'm hungry before.. which I took that to mean, 'You should eat before I get home because I'll be too tired to do it'.. so I did!).. and she was walking a lot slower, and her voice was a lot higher and more tired sounding.. it was sad :(

She was telling me how she has to take so many pills and she's been feeling sick all the time and how, when she was walking home, a girl my age stopped her and asked if she had to walk much farther, because she looked like she wouldn't make it. But luckily she was pretty close to the house, otherwise, the girl probably would have offered her a ride, which is very nice.

But I felt so bad!

She'd brought back some groceries, and I don't normally help them put stuff away.. not because I don't want to or anything, just because I don't know where everything goes, and sometimes they insist on doing things by themselves.. But it was just a few bottles to go in the fridge, and instead of having her walk back and forth I just kept passing them to her like an assembly line. And when I went to go back to my room as she started washing dishes, she said Thank you for helping me with the bottles. And I said Thank you for the empanada! :)

Hopefully she feels better soon!
