Remember way back when..

When I said I kept seeing this runner who was waving to me as if he knew me? And I said he didn't look Spanish, and if I knew him I had no idea how? Well, I still see him ALL the time, and for a while, it was like.. he must have realized he didn't know me, because he started purposely not smiling/waving like he used to.. BUT BY THIS TIME I had gotten used to acknowledging each other, that I started smiling back, first even!

ANYWAY. Today as I was coming back to class (HURRYING TO BUY INAUGURAL BALL TICKETS WHICH I DID INDEED PROCURE), I passed him again, but this time we were close enough that he was like 'Hola!' and I said Hola back, and then I kept walking (he was going in the opposite direction) until I got to the crosswalk. And I was like HEY I SHOULD BLOG ABOUT THIS, WE'VE MADE PROGRESS (okay, time out, can I just say that I had to look up in the THESAURUS the word for 'progress' and the word for 'acknowledge', because I HAD COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN WHAT THEY WERE???? Does that mean my spanish is getting better? I think that's what that should mean.)

Well anyway, I get to the other side of the crosswalk, and someone comes up next to me and it's the runner! And I'm pretty sure the first thing he asked me was 'Eres canadiense?' loooooooooooooooool Are you Canadian? Do Spaniards really think 'Canadian' before they think 'American'??? IS IT WEIRD THAT I THINK THAT'S WEIRD? Is that like... egocentric ethnocentric something centric of me to think that a foreigner should assume I'm American before assuming Canadian? Anyway, I was like nope I'm American! And then we started talking, he spoke pretty fast but I could understand. He said he was from Huelva but is here in Triana/Sevilla for work, and then he like CRACKED A JOKE, 'Well, I'm not working right now, right now I'm running!'

And then he said something like Are you studying Spanish here? You don't need to study Spanish, you speak it perfectly! Like una espaƱola. AND IM LIKE HAHAHAHAHAHAH OKAY PLZ DONT FLATTER ME LYK THAT I KNOW IT'S NOT TRUE. He said he doesn't really speak English, he can speak it 'regular'.. which for him meant like.. he's not terrible but he's not fluent?

Anyway, I guess our houses were in the same direction, so he saw my backpack (with my name on it like a NERDDDD) and said 'Rachel? That's your name? I thought it was the brand of the backpack..' And I'm like nopeee it's my name, like Raquel. He said his name was Jose, just like everyone else. And I was like well that makes it easy to remember!

And I don't really remember the rest, but I got to my house and he was like, Well next time I see you I'll say hello again! And I was like Vale! Adios!

AND THAT'S THE STORY OF THE UNKNOWN RUNNER

Also I have no idea how old this guy is, he's one of those guys that looks very ambiguous age-wise.. Could be in his 20s, could be 30s... and he also does not look Spanish loooooool
