Seriously, I've been spending too much time in my house. It was depressing me and making me forget I was in SPAIN.
So today, I planned to go to 'Cine en la Ciudad' which is some free movie showing thing.. with the Cine Club at CIEE! It was a nice small group - me, Alison, Caitlin, Michelle, and a girl Kristina, plus the two Spaniards (dating) bringing us there, Javi y Sara. AND THEN ALISON WAS LIKE omg Fernando is coming and he's gonna bring his friend! BUT THEY GOT LOST ON THE WAY TO CIEE TO MEET US.
SO Alison calls him and she can't explain where we are because she didn't know street names. SO I TOOK THE PHONE and started explaining where to go BECAUSE I KNOW BASICALLY THE STREET NAMES NEAR CIEE. So first I was like Calle Alemans? But it turned out they weren't in that direction, and I remembered CALLE PLACENTINES EVEN THOUGH I NEVER TAKE THAT STREET. And so I said that, but he couldn't hear me, or I said it weirdly and he was like Calcetines? Like socks??? hehehe and I was like NOOOOOO.
But after the initial confusion, because I didn't know which direction they were coming from, I was like, You should come up to Calle Argote de Molina. (THIS WAS ALL IN SPANISH BY THE WAY, NO ENGLISH WAS SPOKEN EVEN THOUGH FERNANDO KNOWS SOME).. And he was like Hold on, let me ask what street we're on. AND I HEARD THE PERSON THEY ASKED IN THE BACKGROUND. AND HE SAID 'ESTA ES CALLE ARGOTE DE MOLINA' and I freaked out because I was actually right and I was so excited.
And then Sara apparently said something like Wow, she's like a Sevillana! WHICH MADE ME SO HAPPY except it clearly was not for the way I was speaking but for the way I KNEW MY WAY AROUND. Wuteva. I was stuttering and messing up like an idiot, as always. BUT HE UNDERSTOOD.
But from then on I forgot the next street name and it was close enough that we just went to get them. And then we walked towards the movie. BUT BECAUSE OF TODAY'S STRIKE IT WAS CLOSED AND WE WERE SO SAD.
But instead we went to Plaza de Salvador and DRANK SOME Tinto or Cerveza. And I told Javi and Sara about GET ON MY LEVEL. I also learned that THE WORD FOR CHAPSTICK IS 'cacao' which makes no sense but that's fine. Also, 'ligar' = flirt. And 'mareado' means tipsy!
THEN JAVI SHOWED US the origami things he makes when he's bored at work.. AND THESE THINGS WERE UNBELIEVABLY INTRICATE... he must be bored at work a lot!
When I went to get my tinto from the bar, I had too many things in my hand, and I had my backpack on like a NERD.. and all of a sudden, i'm coming back with my change and my wallet and my cup, and I feel someone SQUEEZING MY ELBOW like I do to people which is always a weird sensation hahaha.. and I look and it's Fernando and I'm like LOLQUE?
And then when we all went our separate ways, all us Americans were walking back towards Triana, but outside of the cathedral, this like.. mini orchestra was playing.. there was a Cello, and accordion, and maybe a violin? I took a video of them playing, it was really nice!
AND THEN I GOT MCDONALDS because I was going to go to the cafe near CIEE but I forgot that everything closed for the strike. And I was hungry. So then I scarfed it down and we went to visit more friends and get FROYO but I didn't get any because I wasn't hungry after that.
SO TODAY WAS FINALLY A NOT LAME WEEKNIGHT THANK GOD.
Now I remember maybe why I like Sevilla.
Also, I gotta upload those gypsy videos, but it's not loading! Maybe I'll try again later...
MADRID THIS WEEKEND.
