Sometimes it means 'long weekend' ... like, if you have Friday off, the long weekend is called a puente. I was so confused when my abuela was like WHAT ARE YOU DOING THIS PUENTE? DIA DE LA HISPANIDAD IS FRIDAY SO THERE'S NO CLASS (not that I have class on Fridays anyway...)
I was like uhhh... bridge? What am I doing this bridge?? WHAT?
But now it all makes sense.
